“Wise not to turn everything upside down”

VfL Women are set for their first match under interim coach Sabrina Eckhoff.

The international break is over and the She-Wolves are back at full strength in Wolfsburg. After just two training sessions together, the team travel to SC Freiburg for Matchday 19 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. Kick-off at the Dreisamstadion is at 14:00 CEST on Sunday 13 April. For the She-Wolves, it will be the first game under interim coach Sabrina Eckhoff following the resignation of Tommy Stroot.

Before the match against SC Freiburg, Eckhoff spoke about…

…the team news: “Lena Lattwein is out with a cold. Kristin Demann is still doing reduced training and Kathy Hendrich is also not available yet.”

…her first match preparation as interim coach: “We had a bit of a test run with the Leipzig match because Tommy was ill and wasn’t as contactable for us as coaching staff. We’ve divided ourselves up well in the coaching team and are making use of the great individual qualities that we have, so we’re well prepared.”

…possible tactical changes: “There hasn’t been a chance to make big changes due to the international break. We’re also talking about a time window of four and a half weeks in total, so it’s wise not to turn everything upside down. We have some things that we want to tweak though.”

…the potential tweaks: “We need a certain energy, dynamism and aggression without the ball at the end of the season. Those are the points we’re addressing.”

…the opponents: “SC Freiburg are a side who have performed well at home this season. I’m thinking of the matches against Bayern and Frankfurt, for example. We’re focusing much more on ourselves, though. We want to bring our qualities onto the pitch and restrict Freiburg’s opportunities on the counter. That will be key to getting the win there.”
