Patrick Wimmer is joining VfL Wolfsburg as of the 2022/23 season. The Austrian under-21 international is making the transfer to the Green-and-Whites on a five-year contract from Bundesliga rivals Arminia Bielefeld thanks to a release clause. The 20-year-old winger is already the Wolves’ second acquisition for next season, after the signing of Poland international Jakub Kaminski was announced in January.
“A very good feeling”
Wimmer’s immediate priority is staying in the top flight with Arminia, before he joins VfL in the summer. “I’m really happy that the move to Wolfsburg has come about,” he said. “I got a very good feeling from the talks with the management. My aim is to give 100 per cent from day one in order to celebrate successes with the club and compete for the European places as frequently as possible.”
“Will enhance our game”
By signing the right-footer, VfL is staying true to its philosophy of investing in young players who are capable and willing to develop. “Patrick fits our requirement profile perfectly,” commented VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “He’s versatile, can preferably play on either wing but also be used as a second striker or right-back. He brings power, energy and pace. He also possesses great shooting ability, plays without inhibition, creates chances and has an eye for his teammates. He wants to keep getting better and he will certainly enhance our game.”
