On Wednesday evening, specialist football publication France Football published the names of the 30 players who have been nominated for the women’s Ballon d’Or. That list includes three She-Wolves, namely Lena Oberdorf, Ewa Pajor and Alexandra Popp, with recent former player Jill Roord also among the 30.
In the eyes of many experts however, the favourite for the award is Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati, with the winner to be announced on Monday 30 October, when the Ballon d’Or gala is held in Paris.
Second time for Oberdorf and Popp
Oberdorf and Popp were already nominated for this prestigious award last year, and garnered a large number of votes, with Oberdorf finishing fourth overall and Popp sixth.
