Women

Perfect start

VfL Women earned a 3-0 win in a chance-filled game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

VfL Wolfsburg Women began the new Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga season with a convincing 3-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the AOK Stadion. In front of a vibrant crowd of over 3,700 spectators, Lena Oberdorf (15’), Lena Lattwein (22’) and Sveindis Jonsdottir (49’) got the goals for the Green-and-Whites.

After just two competitive matches in the 2023/24 campaign, there is now an international break. A total of 16 members of head coach Tommy Stroot’s squad will be involved in the Nations League with their respective countries in games scheduled for 22 and 26 September.

Goals

  • 1-0 Oberdorf (15’): Alexandra Popp gets forward at pace down the left and crosses into the middle for Oberdorf, who prods the ball into the far corner. A deserved opener!

  • 2-0 Lattwein (22’): After a foul on Jule Brand, Felicitas Rauch takes a free-kick from the right-hand channel. Her delivery finds the unmarked Lattwein to head home!

  • 3-0 Jonsdottir (49’): The second half could not have got off to a better start. Brand’s shot is tipped on to the crossbar by Leverkusen goalkeeper Friederike Repohl and the rebound falls at the feet of Jonsdottir, who makes it 3-0 from close range.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “I’m extremely happy with the win today to start off the new season. I was pleased with the way we played right from kick-off. It was a commanding and deserved win.”
