“I only have a Plan A”

Camilla Küver on her debut for the She-Wolves, her injury and upcoming opponents 1. FC Köln.

VfL-Wolfsburg-Abwehrspielerin Camilla Küver lacht.

Camilla Küver’s grin is so broad and appears so often it could almost be her trademark – and the 20-year-old has had plenty to smile about of late. In this interview, the defender talks about her comeback from injury and upcoming opponents 1. FC Köln.

Camilla Küver, it’s been almost two weeks now since you made your comeback. How emotional and special was that moment for you?

Camilla Küver: “It’s still difficult to put into words. The girls made it easy for me. I felt huge relief after the final whistle because it meant I’d put that difficult period and the injury behind me. The fact that my comeback was also simultaneously my debut for VfL Wolfsburg made the moment even more special.”

When players suffer a serious injury, they are often asked about a Plan B. What was yours?

Camilla: “At the moment I only have a Plan A – and nothing can throw me off course. Not even an injury. I’m living my dream right now. Since finishing school last year I’ve been 100 percent focused on football, but I’ve started to realise that I need something to balance it out. That’s why I’m starting a sports management degree soon.”

The temperature has plummeted, it’s snowing non-stop and the holidays are just around the corner. Are you already in the festive mood?

Camilla: “Absolutely! Whenever it snows you automatically get into the Christmas spirit. I’ve only been listening to Christmas songs in the car for a while now and I’ve already put up my decorations in my flat. I had to go on a shopping spree first though, as I didn’t have any Christmas decorations.”

The She-Wolves face Köln away next. VfL have never lost against them, having won ten and drawn one. Why do you think that run will continue on Saturday?

Camilla: “Things have been going a lot better for us recently. We were back to our old selves at times against Bremen and Freiburg. On top of that, the girls were very successful in the international break and are returning from their national teams with good momentum. We want to stay on Bayern’s heels and be ready to pounce if they slip up.”
