Uefa Nations League Group Stage concludes

She-Wolves involved in play-offs, as well as promotion and relegation battles.

VfL Wolfsburg Spielerin Hegerin jubelt im Trikot der Nationalmannschaft.

A total of 12 VfL Wolfsburg players were away with their national teams over the past few days. Over the last two matchdays, Germany and the Netherlands were both playing for a chance to participate in the Nations League play-offs and the resulting qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Poland secured promotion to League A on Matchday 5, while Switzerland dropped down to League B.

GERMANY MAINTAIN OLYMPIC CHANCE

Germany kept alive their hopes of participating at the Olympic Games thanks to a 3-0 triumph over Denmark and a 0-0 draw in Wales, sending them into the play-offs. Merle Frohms, Kathrin Hendrich, Svenja Huth and Alexandra Popp all started against Wales, as they did against Denmark, while Jule Brand – an unused substitute against the Danes – also began the match. Marina Hegering was in the starting line-up against Denmark, but after collecting her second yellow card in the current tournament in that game, she was suspended for the second fixture. Lena Lattwein came off the bench in the 80th minute against Wales, having not featured against Denmark.

THRILLING FINALE IN GROUP 1

VfL captain Dominique Janssen played in the Netherlands’ 3-2 defeat against England, but club-mate Lynn Wilms did not feature. The Dutch returned to winning ways with a 4-0 success against Belgium to finish top of their group and, like Germany, keep alive their prospects of qualifying for the Olympics. Wilms was an unused substitute once more, with Janssen again in the starting line-up.

SWITZERLAND RELEGATED

After a 1-0 victory over Sweden and a 3-0 reverse against Italy, Switzerland were relegated from League A. Riola Xhemaili did not participate in either game.

POLAND TOP THEIR GROUP

Poland beat Ukraine 1-0 on Matchday 5 to seal promotion to League A. In their second game, Ewa Pajor opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Greece.
