Contract extended

German international Sara Doorsoun signs with VfL Women through to 2023.

Another VfL Wolfsburg Women’s player has pledged her future to the Green-and-Whites, with Sara Doorsoun penning a contract extension with the five-time German league winners though to 30 June 2023. The 28-year-old Cologne-born defender was previously tied to the club until 2021. Since joining from SGS Essen in 2018, she has made 26 FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga appearances, three in the DFB Cup and six in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. In her first season with VfL she won the German league and cup double. Doorsoun also made her international debut in 2016 and has gone on to win a total of 34 caps for Germany.

“A real gesture of recognition”

“The fact that those in charge at VfL wanted to extend my contract in advance was a real gesture of recognition for me,” said Doorsoun. “The trust that they are showing in me is something that I’m looking forward to repaying over the coming years. I’ve felt really at home here right from the beginning and I very much enjoy the daily routine that I have with my team-mates and with the coaching staff. All that meant that the decision to continue down the same path until at least 2023 was an easy one for me to make!”

“An asset to our team”

“Sara fitted in here very quickly and soon found her role within the team, which speaks to her as a person and to the great personality she has,” said VfL head coach Stephan Lerch. “It’s above all her speed and strength in the tackle at the back that mean she embodies the kind of attributes that will be important to our style of play in the future.”

Ralf Kellermann, sporting director for VfL Women, was delighted that “another important player has extended her contract in advance. With her defensive qualities and also her personality, Sara is an asset to our team!”
