The second new recruit of the summer is on the books. After striker Bartosz Bialek, VfL Wolfsburg have now acquired the services of Maxence Lacroix, a tall (1.90 m) central defender who is making the move from French Ligue 2 club Sochaux-Montbéliard to join the Wolves on a four-year deal until 2024. The 20-year-old has played for a number of age-group sides with the French national team, recently winning two caps at Under-20 level. The two clubs have agreed not to release details of the transfer fee involved.

Born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, Lacroix is already in Wolfsburg and getting to know his new surroundings. “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge at VfL and of playing in the Bundesliga,” he said. “The conditions here in Wolfsburg are great, I really like the stadium and right from my first visit, I knew that I had come to the right place and that it would be the best place to continue my development. The first thing I want to do now is to get settled in and get to know my new team-mates and the whole new environment. I’ll be working hard right from the off to play as many games as possible and to be successful with VfL.”
“Maxence is another logical next step in bringing talented young and hungry players to Wolfsburg who can then develop to a higher level with us and take the next step in their careers,” said sporting director Marcel Schäfer, who sees the young defender as an important cornerstone of VfL’s future. “He’s got everything he needs to establish himself in the Bundesliga.”
