The VfL Wolfsburg menâs and womenâs first teams underwent a comprehensive driving safety training course as part of the âVolkswagen Driving Experienceâ on Tuesday, with a view to highlighting greater road safety.
Six different stations
For the first time since 2021, Volkswagen invited VfLâs Bundesliga teams to a driver safety training session at the test centre in Ehra-Lessien. In addition to being fun, this somewhat different training session focused on learning skills across six different stations. From the correct braking and steering procedures to avoiding sudden hazards and off-road control, the main objective was to improve driving safety. There was also a focus on driving awareness on the off-road course and when parking.
âThis isnât something we experience every day â it was a very special training session,â said VfL managing director Peter Christiansen, who was enthusiastic about the event. âI think focusing on driving safety is extremely important. Itâs vital to practice regularly in order to get a better feel for the car and to be prepared for different situations.â
She-Wolf Alexandra Popp also thanked Volkswagen for the opportunity to discover and test her own limits: âThe training and the vehicles are fun, but above all they make you feel safe. There are a lot of things here that you could experience as a driver on the road. Weâre glad that, thanks to Volkswagen, we had the opportunity to take part in a training course like this.â
VfL centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw highlighted the balance of the programme offered by such a unique event: âItâs a great combination. You learn something and have fun at the same time.â
