VfL finally claimed their first victory under new head coach Bruno Labbadia last Saturday as Daniel Didavi’s brace earned the Wolves a 2-0 win away to SC Freiburg. The Green-Whites will be aiming for another three points when they host FC Augsburg on Friday (kick-off 20:30 CEST).
Narrow defeat
The Wolves’ home record against Augsburg leaves a lot to be desired: VfL have won only one of their six Bundesliga encounters with FCA at the Volkswagen Arena, drawing two and losing the other three. The corresponding fixture earlier this season ended in a 2-1 victory for the visitors, with Daniel Didavi on target for the Wolves.
Finnbogason ruled out
"Our goal of reaching 40 points hasn’t changed," commented Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum, who will have to make do without Kevin Danso, Raphael Framberger, Kilian Jakob and Finnbogason on Friday. "Bayern Munich have won the championship already, but the title for us is top-flight survival."
Familiar faces
Several FCA players return to their former stomping ground tonight. Midfielder Daniel Baier (2007-2010), Ja-Cheol Koo (2011-2014), Marwin Hitz (2008-2013) and Caiuby (2008-2012) all used to play for the Green-Whites. Paul Verhaegh, meanwhile, spent seven seasons at Augsburg before joining the Wolves last summer.
