Coaches’ quotes
Niko Kovac: “We put in such a brilliant performance over the 90 minutes, both with and without the ball. Union asked everything of us, but given the chances we had, it was a game we should have won comfortably. We then ended up falling behind to a justifiable penalty. Overall we didn’t give Union anything – they didn’t threaten in front of goal and didn’t have any serious chances. That shows that we played well today, but I’m obviously not happy with the result because – as we did against Frankfurt – we dropped two points that would have been useful in the race for seventh place.”
Urs Fischer: “I’m pleased overall – this is the first time we’ve picked up a point and the first time we’ve scored a goal in Wolfsburg. The team worked really hard, particularly when I think back to Thursday, as they only had three days to prepare for the game. It was a hard-earned point and when you look at the 90 minutes, we were definitely a little fortunate. There were one or two situations where we needed the rub of the green, but when I look at the team’s commitment and passion, the point wasn’t undeserved.”
