VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Wout Weghorst from Dutch top-flight club AZ Alkmaar, the 25-year-old striker putting pen to paper on a contract until 2022 at the Volkswagen Arena.

Following the arrivals of Felix Klaus (Hannover 96) and Pavao Pervan (LASK Linz), Weghorst becomes the Wolves' third signing of the summer.

"Consistently good performances"

"Wout Weghorst has put in consistently good performances in the past couple of seasons with Alkmaar and has come on leaps and bounds," said Wolfsburg Director of Sport Jörg Schmadtke. "With his style of play and mentality, he should adapt well to the Bundesliga."

"I wanted to take the next step"

A lofty target man who captained AZ on 22 occasions last term, Weghorst is delighted to have made the move to Lower Saxony: "The time I spent in Alkmaar was fantastic, but I wanted to take the next step in my career. I'm looking forward to the new challenge and firmly believe that the move to the Bundesliga is right for my development. I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting to know my new surroundings."

Weghorst joined Alkmaar from Heracles Almelo in 2016, scoring 45 goals and returning 13 assists in 86 first-team outings. In March, he made his debut for the Netherlands, and has since won a further two caps for the Oranje. His total Eredivise record reads: 124 games, 51 goals.
