“We want to excite the fans”

Chantal Hagel assesses the situation going into VfL Women’s match against Bayern.

VfL-Wolfsburg-Spielerin Chantal Hagel lächelt und klatscht in die Hände.

Midfielder Chantal Hagel is hoping for three points in this Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga against FC Bayern Munich (kick-off 17:45) and is looking forward to a big crowd at the Volkswagen Arena.

Chantal Hagel, it’s been a few days since the defeat to Hoffenheim. How do you reflect on it now?

Chantal Hagel: “At first, something like that is obviously a setback. We’ve now reviewed the game and in our debrief we also saw that we did a lot of things well, despite the defeat, which we can build on.”

On Saturday you host Bayern, not the easiest opponents. How do you currently rate them?

Chantal: “Extremely strong – they’re right at the top of the table for a reason. They’re extremely good technically and have really good individual players. Bayern will certainly ask everything of us on Saturday.”

What do you need to do to keep the points in Wolfsburg?

Chantal: “We have to bring everything we’ve got onto the pitch. We need to be well coordinated, use our chances with full conviction and finish them off. We probably won’t have as many shots on goal as against Hoffenheim, so we need to take the ones we do get.”

What’s it like for you to play in such a setting?

Chantal: “You just soak up the whole atmosphere. Just playing in such a big stadium is special, and then in front of so many spectators and in a home game. It’s going to be a cool game, in which we want to excite the fans. A win on Saturday would put pressure on Bayern, and then I hope we end up with two trophies.”
