Victory in Hoffenheim

VfL Women earned a 2-1 win away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

VfL Wolfsburg Women picked up their second win in as many matches in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga this season after overcoming TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 2-1 to consolidate top spot in the table.

SC Freiburg are the only team that could leapfrog the She-Wolves at the summit, provided they record a big win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

Jill Roord and former Hoffenheim player Jule Brand both scored in the last five minutes for VfL in front of a record crowd of 7,109 at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.

The Green-and-Whites are next in action on Friday 30 September at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the AOK Stadion in a top-of-the-table clash against a visiting side that has also begun the new season with two wins.

Reaction

Head coach Tommy Stroot: “We weren’t expecting this to be a stroll in the park, especially not in front of a great crowd in a big stadium. We knew that Hoffenheim would be very motivated and that they’re a team with a great deal of footballing quality. We changed our approach in the last 10 minutes. We don’t usually play long balls into the box but in the end we got our reward that way. It was a deserved win, even if we were a touch fortunate considering when we scored our goals.”
