She-Wolves earn a 4-2 win over Eintracht at Deutsche Bank Park.

Die Wölfinnen jubeln gemeinsam auf dem Spielfeld.

VfL Wolfsburg Women beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-2 on Matchday 2 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. A glorious autumnal afternoon at Deutsche Bank Park set the stage for the Green-and-Whites to exact revenge for the chastening defeat they suffered last season.

A crowd of 13,500 fans saw an intensive encounter in which the She-Wolves twice went behind before ultimately taking the points at the final whistle. Alexandra Popp (28’), Lena Oberdorf (53’), Joelle Wedemeyer (73’) and Ewa Pajor (84’) got the goals for VfL.

Goals

  • 1-0 Freigang (pen. 9’): VfL goalkeeper Merle Frohms fouls Barbara Dunst and Laura Freigang converts the ensuing penalty to make it 1-0.

  • 1-1 Popp (28’): Vivien Endemann does well to win possession on the left before cleverly laying the ball off to Jule Brand, who fizzes a cross into the box. Popp is in the right place at the right time to equalise from seven metres out.

  • 2-1 Dunst (47’): Lara Prasnikar feeds Dunst, who leaves Frohms no chance – 2-1 for Frankfurt.

  • 2-2 Oberdorf (53’): Oberdorf rifles the ball in from the edge of the area to make it 2-2.

  • 2-3 Wedemeyer (73’): Wedemeyer strides forward in a central position and unleashes a brilliant long-range strike to put VfL in front. What a goal!

  • 2-4 Pajor (84’): Svenja Huth passes to Popp, who flicks it on to Pajor with her heel, leaving the Polish forward to prod the ball in from close range.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “It was an intensive game for us, as we expected, and for the fans it was a wonderful Bundesliga match to watch. We battled our way into the game and managed to increasingly assert ourselves as time wore on. Overall, it was a fantastic day for women’s football.”
