“You gotta fight for your right to party!”
In spite of COVID-19, 2020 is still a special year for the Green-and-Whites. On 12 September, it will be 75 years to the day since VfL Wolfsburg was founded. Over the coming weeks, there will be plenty of celebrations to mark this 75th anniversary on the Wolves’ various media channels, at several locations around the city centre and of course via the players themselves.
T-shirts, scarves and giant posters
“75 years is quite a number and one that deserves to be celebrated – and that’s exactly what we intend to do,” said VfL managing director Dr Tim Schumacher. “The anniversary is very important to everyone in and around the club, which can be seen in the incredible commitment and passion of each individual involved in planning the celebrations for our big day.“ The common theme of all the birthday activities is the special “VfL Wolfsburg 75 Jahre” logo, and fans can convey that message around the world by sporting the specially created anniversary collection, with t-shirts, scarves and badges available now in the Wölfeshop. The anniversary will also be promoted via various giant posters around the city, and in particular in the City-Galerie Shopping Centre, which will feature a huge collage from 12 September.
Special anniversary shirt
And as if the football gods had planned it themselves, the Wolves will be playing a cup match versus Union Fürstenwalde in Wolfsburg on the very day that the club was founded 75 years earlier, sporting a special anniversary shirt. “We are all looking forward to seeing the team play in this beautiful kit, and the fact that the match will be on the actual birthday and played in Wolfsburg just rounds off the whole thing and is an added bonus for all VfL fans,“ said Schumacher. The jersey, which the Wolves will also be wearing for their first Bundesliga match at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday 20 September (kick-off: 18:00 CEST), will be available as a limited edition at the Wölfeshop after the cup tie kicks off at 15:30 CEST on 12 September.
