Women

Group win in sight

VfL Women are away to St. Pölten for their final UWCL group fixture.

As was the case prior to travelling to Rome, the She-Wolves held their last training session in Wolfsburg ahead of their trip to St. Pölten. In the build-up to the team’s final UEFA Women’s Champions League Group B fixture, assistant coach Kim Kulig filled in for Tommy Stroot, who was ill, and discussed…

…team news: “Although it’s not certain yet, at the moment I’m assuming Tommy will be with us tomorrow. Unfortunately he’s suffering with the symptoms of a heavy cold. The coaching team is well prepared to compensate for his absence and to cope well. Unfortunately, Lena Oberdorf also has a cold so she won’t travel with us, while Jill Roord and Sara Agrez are still unavailable.”

…shooting practice in training: “We worked on our finishing in our last training session and are well prepared to face St. Pölten.”

…VfL’s role as favourites in the group: “We were very unhappy that we didn’t win against Slavia, because that’s always our aim. Having said that, we’re still in a good position and now we want to make the last game a positive one and end a fantastic year with a positive result. That’s our approach. We’re focusing on ourselves and our own performance. Where can we improve? Where do we see development? As a general rule, we want to compete with the biggest teams. But our aim for now is to finish top of the group.”
