VfL Wolfsburg have added another player to their ranks, with striker Tiago Tomas moving from Sporting CP. The 21-year-old has recently been on loan at VfB Stuttgart and featured for the Swabians as they secured their Bundesliga status in the relegation play-off against Hamburger SV. Tomas has signed a contract with the Wolves until 30 June 2028 and will wear the number 11 shirt.

“Add more variety to our attacking play”

“Tiago is still at the beginning of his career, he has big potential and can take the next step in his development in Wolfsburg,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “He has the advantage of already knowing the Bundesliga and has also gained experience on the European stage with Sporting. We’re excited about him and are confident that his qualities will add more variety to our attacking play.”

Portuguese double winner

Wolfsburg will be the third club that Tomas has played for. The Portuguese joined the Sporting CP academy in 2014 and turned pro at the Lisbon club. He won the Primeira Liga title (2021), the Portuguese League Cup twice (2021 and 2022) and the Portuguese Super Cup (2021) with the Lions. In total the 1.80-metre forward made 66 competitive appearances for Sporting, registering nine goals and four assists. He then moved to the Bundesliga in January 2022, spending one and a half years on loan at Stuttgart, where he scored eight goals and provided four assists in 47 games.

Fourth signing for new season

Tomas becomes the Green-and-Whites’ fourth recruit for the new campaign after Cedric Zesiger, Moritz Jenz and Vaclav Cerny. “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and I’m happy to now be part of the VfL family,” commented Tomas. “I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and my new surroundings and finally get started.”
