The She-Wolves took another important step towards securing their fifth Allianz Women's Bundesliga title on Easter Monday with a comprehensive victory in front of 1,690 fans at AOK Stadion that saw them move four points clear at the top of the table after closest pursuers Bayern Munich could only draw 1-1 away to SC Sand.
Goals from Ewa Pajor, Zsanett Jakabfi, Nilla Fischer, Pernille Harder and Alexandra Popp sealed the points for a dominant VfL side, who can edge even closer to the title when they host Sand on Sunday 28 April (kick-off 14:00 CEST). Another victory for the Green-Whites would mean they could wrap up the championship on the penultimate matchday of the season at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on 5 May (kick-off 14:00).
"Successful Easter Monday"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: "We started well and took control of the game right away, even if we also survived one or two nervy moments. Scoring two goals in quick succession gave us confidence. At the end of the first half, our passing got a bit sloppy, which is something we addressed during the interval. We dominated the second half and used our possession well. We deserved to score the goals we did, so overall it was a successful Easter Monday."
