Final-day victory

The Wolves won 1-0 at Borussia Mönchengladbach in their final game of the season.

VfL Wolfsburg picked up three points in their final competitive game of the 2024/25 campaign as Daniel Bauer’s side triumphed 1-0 at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday afternoon. Lukas Nmecha scored the only goal in front of 53,048 fans at Borussia-Park to earn VfL, who had gone nine games without a win, their eighth away victory of the season and an 11th-place finish in their 28th consecutive Bundesliga campaign.

Deserved win

The Wolves deserved their final-day win, delivering an impressive performance in a contest featuring plenty of attacking football from both teams. The Green-and-Whites, however, created the lion’s share of the goalscoring opportunities and were the better side in the second half in particular.

Goal

  • 0-1 Nmecha (50’): A superb attack ends in the opening goal. Mohammed Amoura is sent racing clear down the left and sends an eye-catching, outside-of-the-boot cross into the centre. Nmecha’s first-time finish past goalkeeper Jonas Omlin is no less impressive.

Reaction

Daniel Bauer: “I’m very impressed with the energy the team showed again, and the passion in their performance. It was another good step in the right direction after the Hoffenheim game. We created a lot of chances and won the ball back impressively. We maybe could have put the game to bed sooner. As it was, we let Gladbach stay in the game and even had to defend with spirit on a couple of occasions. The lads deserved to keep the clean sheet after a compact defensive display.”

Gerardo Seoane: “We had some good passages of play today but lacked accuracy in many areas. We opened the door for our opponents by making the odd mistake. We lost our thread a little after conceding the goal, which led to counter-attacking opportunities. Overall, we’re extremely disappointed we weren’t able to give the fans a home win to round off the season, and that we couldn’t achieve our goal of finishing in the top half of the table.”
