Women

Clear favourites

VfL Women are away to Turbine Potsdam on Saturday.

The She-Wolves play their final away fixture of the season at 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Saturday 3 May (14:00 CEST). The relative strength of the two teams appears clear before kick-off on Matchday 21 of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, with Potsdam bottom of the table and already relegated, but VfL head coach Sabrina Eckhoff is wary of underestimating the opposition.

At the pre-match press conference, Eckhoff discussed…

…team news: “Marina Hegering, Lineth Beerensteyn (both muscular), Svenja Huth (knee) and Rebecka Blomqvist (fever) are sidelined. We have the quality and strength in the squad to cope well with these absences, though.”

…Kristin Demann and Camilla Küver: “Kristin's situation is a bit special, I could imagine that she might make the squad. We’ll wait and see today, though. With Camilla, we’re very happy that she managed 60 minutes for the U20s recently. We’re gradually building her up after her long lay-off so that she gets back into the rhythm. That’s working very well at the moment, we’re very pleased with her.”

…Justine Kielland: “We’re very pleased with the minutes that Justine had against Hoffenheim. We hoped she would make things happen in attack and enliven our play, and she definitely did that. She’s also very happy with her performance.”

…the already relegated hosts: “It’s not been an easy season for Potsdam after being promoted again. Nevertheless, tomorrow is going to be a special day for them because it’s their penultimate Bundesliga match at home for the time being. In that respect, they’ll want to bow out well in front of their fans. They’re going to give it everything from the start. It’s a football match that starts at 0-0 and that we need to sew up, using the greater spells of possession we’ll probably have. That’s why we also did extra work on our play in the final third yesterday. On Saturday, it’s a case of executing our attacks with drive and pace, creating clear goalscoring opportunities that way and then taking advantage of them. I’ve not noticed any drop in tension or anything like that among the team in training. The players are ready to get these three points tomorrow.”
