Women

Still in contention

VfL Wolfsburg Women remain in the hunt for the title after beating Köln 7-1.

Die VfL Wolfsburg Spielerinnen Bremer und Hegering jubeln zusammen nach einem erzielten Tor gegen Köln.

VfL Wolfsburg maintained their hopes of defending their FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga title on Matchday 19 courtesy of a 7-1 victory over 1. FC Köln. VfL’s destiny remains out of their hands, however, after FC Bayern beat SGS Essen 2-1 away from home on Saturday to cement their place at the top of the table.

Bremer at the double

In front of 3,247 spectators at the AOK Stadion, Pauline Bremer scored twice and Lena Oberdorf, Marina Hegering, Alexandra Popp all found the net in a convincing victory. An Ally Gudorf own goal made it 5-1 for VfL in the second half.

Crucial game in Frankfurt

The She-Wolves return to action in front of a five-figure crowd next weekend, when they take on third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday 14 May (kick-off 13:00 CEST).

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “I’m very impressed with the performance and the hunger we showed. We had a great deal of stability on the pitch, even after making changes. We just have great quality in our squad and I’m very happy with the convincing win over 1. FC Köln.”
