She-Wolves unbeaten

VfL Women’s international players enjoyed a successful week in World Cup qualifying.

The She-Wolves managed to carry their good results from the start of the season in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga and UEFA Women’s Champions League into their national teams. In the opening two rounds of fixtures in 2023 World Cup qualification, there was not a single defeat for the five sides containing VfL players.

Three good halves for Germany

Germany lived up to their favourites tag against Bulgaria with a commanding 7-0 win. Lena Oberdorf, Kathrin Hendrich and Svenja Huth (captain) all started, while Tabea Waßmuth came on and scored her third international goal to make it 6-0.

Against Serbia, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side came from 1-0 down at half-time to win 5-1. With Hendrich, Lena Lattwein and Oberdorf, the back four was made up almost entirely of She-Wolves players to begin with. Huth also played from the start again.

Goal and captaincy

Poland began with a 1-1 draw against Belgium, with VfL striker Ewa Pajor captaining the team and scoring the opening goal. Pajor was then rested in the Poles’ 1-0 victory over Armenia.

Maximum points for Scandinavians

Sweden won both of their matches, beating Slovakia 1-0 and Georgia 4-0, where Rebecka Blomqvist made a brief appearance. Denmark, with Sofie Svava in their starting line-up, enjoyed comfortable wins against Malta (7-0) and Azerbaijan (8-0).

Netherlands with win and draw

In Group C, Dominique Janssen, Jill Roord and Shanice van de Sanden all featured for the Netherlands in a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic. That was followed by a 2-0 win against Iceland in Reykjavik, where Janssen and Roord started.
