She-Wolves sign Papp

Hungarian international Luca Papp will wear the green and white jersey from the forthcoming season.

After Diana Nemeth, who joined VfL in the winter, another Hungarian international has made the move from Budapest to Wolfsburg: Luca Papp has signed for the Green-and-Whites on a three-year contract. The midfielder has been given the number 13 shirt.

The 22-year-old played for Ferencvaros as a youngster and made her debut for the first team in April 2017. After a brief spell at Koka FNLA in the 2017/18 season, she returned to Budapest in summer 2018. In total, Papp has made 115 top-flight appearances in Hungary as well as 16 in the cup and seven in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying. Last season she won the championship with Ferencvaros for the fifth time, with Papp being named the league’s best player by the Hungarian association. She made her debut for Hungary on 13 April 2021 in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina and has since registered 29 appearances for the national side.

I’m very proud that I’ll soon be part of this club and promise to never give up on the pitch. I can’t wait to put on the green and white shirt.

“Been fighting my whole life for this”

“I’d like to thank the entire VfL family for the trust placed in me,” said Papp, highlighting: “I’m very happy to be joining one of the biggest women’s football clubs. I’ve been fighting my whole life to realise dreams like this. Now it’s time to do my best for this great club! I’m very proud that I’ll soon be part of this club and promise to never give up on the pitch. I can’t wait to put on the green and white shirt.”

“Very strong performances”

Ralf Kellermann, VfL Wolfsburg’s director of women’s football, is also delighted about the signing: “With her appearances for the Hungarian national team, Luca already brings international experience. She also caught the eye in the league last season with very strong performances. Luca will be given plenty of time with us to adapt to the level in the Women’s Bundesliga.”
