VfL Wolfsburg Women are top of the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga for the first time this season after posting a fifth straight league win in a 3-0 success away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Alexandra Popp (41'), Janina Minge (52') and Joelle Wedemeyer (70') got the goals in a thoroughly deserved victory.
Tommy Stroot's side do not have much time to enjoy their new place at the summit as they are in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Istanbul to take on Galatasaray SK on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Goals
0-1 Popp (41'): The She-Wolves advance into Hoffenheim's half down the left-hand side. Jule Brand plays a low ball into the box, where Lineth Beerensteyn tries to flick it on into the centre. Goalkeeper Laura Dick deflects the ball right into the path of Popp, lurking centrally, and she taps the ball in from close range.
0-2 Minge (52'): Lynn Wilms takes a corner from the right. The unmarked Minge gets there first inside the six-yard box and heads home to make it 2-0.
0-3 Wedemeyer (70'): Svenja Huth crosses from the left into Hoffenheim's penalty area. Marta Cazalla tries to head it clear but inadvertently flicks it on to the back post, where Wedemeyer finishes.
Tommy Stroot: "We're very happy with the three points today against a difficult opponent. We knew we would have to be clinical with any chances we had today, and we did just that. At the end of the day, it's a deserved victory."
