VfL Wolfsburg Women consolidated their place at the top of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga by beating 1. FC Turbine Potsdam 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. In front of 3,124 spectators at the AOK Stadion, the She-Wolves were on top from the outset against a deep-lying Potsdam side, who were toothless for long periods of the contest. Penalties from Lynn Wilms (27’) and Lena Lattwein (33’) set VfL on their way, and Lineth Beerensteyn added a third for the Green-and-Whites (88’) after Lina Katharina Vianden had scored the visitors’ first goal of the campaign 20 minutes from time.

- 1-0 Lattwein (27’ pen): The She-Wolves are awarded a penalty for handball against Vianden. Lattwein steps up and slides the ball into the left corner.
- 2-0 Wilms (33’ pen): Irena Kuznezov brings down Alexandra Popp and the referee points to the spot again. Just like Lattwein six minutes earlier, Wilms keeps her cool and slams the ball into the net.
- 2-1 Vianden (70’): Out of nothing, Vianden’s free-kick from around 35 metres bounces awkwardly in front of Merle Frohms and finds the net to give the visitors hope.
- 3-1 Beerensteyn (88’): A big goal! The She-Wolves have struggled at times towards the end of busy periods this season, but Beerensteyn puts the seal on the victory from the right side of the area after outfoxing Potsdam’s Mia Ewa Schmid.
Tommy Stroot: “It was a big ask because of the short turnaround between the UEFA Women’s Champions League match in Istanbul and today’s match. We had good control of the game overall. I was happy we got the goal to make it 3-1. It was important to get three points today and that’s exactly what we did.”
