She-Wolves cruise into last 16

VfL Women beat Hertha BSC 6-0 in the second round of the DFB Cup.

VfL Wolfsburg Women took a first step towards defending their DFB Cup crown by winning their first match in this season's competition, defeating regional-league side Hertha BSC 6-0.

Lynn Wilms scored twice in what was the first competitive meeting between the clubs in women's football, with further goals from Chantal Hagel, Fenna Kalma, Vivien Endemann and Ariana Arias. VfL must now wait ten days to discover who they will face in the round of 16.

The highlight of the evening was Rebecka Blomqvist making her comeback as a substitute in the 79th minute after almost a year on the sidelines with injury.

The draw for the next round of the cup will take place on 19 September at 20:30 CET. The Green-and-Whites will be in Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga action before that on Saturday 17 September when they travel to promoted side FC Carl Zeiss Jena (kick-off 12:00 CEST).

Tommy Stroot: "We won 6-0 and booked our place in the next round of the cup. I really enjoyed that today. And you could tell how happy everyone was when Rebecka Blomqvist came on for the first time since suffering her injury. That was the best bit of the evening."
