Role of the underdogs

The all-important facts and details ahead of the clash with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

On match-day 26 of the current season, the Wolves clash with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the 20th time (Saturday, March 10th - 15:30 CET). This weekend’s game could prove a special one for Josuha Guilavogui: The Frenchman is set to make his 100th Bundesliga appearance (all for VfL). Good form and seventh place in the table speak in TSG’s favour going into the game. The Wolves thus take on the role of the underdogs.

William suspended

The Brazilian William saw his first red card in the Bundesliga during the game against Leverkusen and will thus miss out in Sinsheim. Leipzig are the only team in the league to have seen as many red cards this season as VfL (4) - Hoffenheim are without any dismissals so far.

Ever-present

Since winning promotion to the top-flight in 1997, the Wolves have been a constant fixture in the Bundesliga (21 seasons) - thus joining Hamburger SV (55 seasons), Bayern München (53), Bayer 04 Leverkusen (39), TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (10), FC Augsburg (7) and RB Leipzig (2) as one of only seven clubs never to have been relegated from the top-flight.

Youngest goal-scorer

For Maximilian Arnold, 1899 Hoffenheim will always be a very special opponent: The VfL midfielder scored his first ever Bundesliga goal against the ‚Kraichgauer‘. With his goal against TSG on April 13th, 2013 (final score 2-2), the Under 21 European Champion became the youngest Wolves goal-scorer in the club’s Bundesliga history (18 years, 321 days).
