Ignacio Camacho’s time at VfL Wolfsburg has come to an end. The 30-year-old former Wolves player, who announced his retirement in September of last year, has decided to return home to Spain with his family for personal reasons.
“We had no hesitation in complying with his wish to terminate the contract,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “Ignacio Camacho has left his mark here in Wolfsburg as both a player and a person. He’s not had an easy time here because of his chronic injury, which ultimately forced him to hang up his boots early. We were happy to keep ‘Cama’ at VfL for longer late last summer through a trainee programme, but we also completely understand his decision and wish him and his family all the best,” continued Schäfer.

Camacho had recently been working in the academy, supporting the work with the U19 team among others. The two-year internship was due to include further stations with, for example, the first team and the office administration. The defensive midfielder came to Wolfsburg in July 2017 from Malaga but made just 21 competitive appearances for the Wolves.
