Recognition for women’s internationals

The City of Wolfsburg held a reception for VfL Wolfsburg’s Women’s Euro runners-up.

Die VIzeeuropameisterinnen des VfL Wolfsburg werden von Oberbügermeister Dennis Weilmann im Namen der Stadt Wolfsburg für ihre Leistungen geehrt. Unter den Gästen waren auch der Markenvorstand von Volkswagen Thomas Schäfer und Imelda Labbé.

After VfL Wolfsburg’s European Championship finalists were honoured at the Volkswagen Arena last Saturday, a delegation from the City of Wolfsburg, led by Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann, followed suit on Wednesday. Ten VfL players were involved in the tournament, with nine of them present at the gala evening in the over 700-year-old Wolfsburg Castle. Jule Brand was forced to miss out on the event to undergo an important medical examination.

Huth thanks guests

“You created a real sense of excitement, the likes of which no-one could even have begun to imagine ahead of the Euro,” said Weilmann in his official speech. “The contribution made by the coaching staff and indeed the entire VfL team to the success of Germany’s women’s football team should also be underlined.”

“It was an honour for us to represent VfL and the City of Wolfsburg in England with such success, even if we did come up just short of the trophy in the end,” VfL Wolfsburg captain Svenja Huth told the invited guests.

“Played our part”

“We played our part in the success,” added VfL Wolfsburg director Dr. Tim Schumacher, in reference to the fact that VfL provided the largest contingent in the Germany squad. “At the end of the day, we can be proud when we look back at what we in Wolfsburg, together with Volkswagen and the City of Wolfsburg, have managed to achieve. Women’s football has always been a flagship of VfL.“
