All square in Cologne
VfL Wolfsburg Women had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw away to 1. FC Köln in the opening Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga Matchday 14 fixture on Friday. Tommy Stroot’s charges were much improved in the second half but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.
Luck was not on the Green-and-Whites’ side either, especially after the interval. Alex Popp hit the right-hand post with a header (59’), a Sveindis Jonsdottir shot was tipped onto the frame of the goal by Aurora Mikalsen a minute later and Lynn Wilms struck the crossbar with a free-kick from 20 metres out in the 94th minute.
The team’s next game is on Wednesday in the DFB Cup quarter-finals away to TSG Hoffenheim (kick-off 18:30 CET).
Tommy Stroot: “We didn’t play well in the first half. There wasn’t enough tempo in the game. After the break we were unlucky with three efforts off the woodwork. Köln fought hard but we’re obviously not happy with the result.”
