Off to Switzerland

VfL Women assistant coach Kim Kulig to join FC Basel in the summer.

Kim Kulig, Co-Trainerin der VfL-Wolfsburg-Frauen, geht inmitten anderer Trainerinnen und Spielerinnen.

Assistant coach Kim Kulig, who had a contract with the Green-and-Whites until 2025, is moving to FC Basel in the summer. The 33-year-old’s deal has been terminated following talks with the management of Basel. Kulig, who joined VfL Wolfsburg in 2021, succeeds countrywoman Katja Greulich, who is leaving the Swiss club after just one season in the dugout. Kulig’s replacement on the VfL coaching staff is yet to be confirmed.

“A brilliant time”

“The decision to want to leave VfL Wolfsburg and ask for an early cancellation of my contract was nothing against VfL Wolfsburg,” explained Kulig. “I’ve had and am having a brilliant time at VfL. Now I want to take the next step in my coaching career and have primary responsibility. FC Basel, as a famous name in Swiss football with good infrastructure and ambitious goals, offers me the best opportunities to do that. My thanks go to Ralf Kellermann and the VfL management, who have made it possible for me to take this chance.”

“Extremely sorry to see Kim leave”

Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, said: “We’re extremely sorry to see Kim Kulig leave at the end of the season. In spite of that, we can completely understand Kim’s reason of wanting to work as a head coach and we already wish her all the best for the new role. Before that, though, we want to put everything into achieving maximum success in the weeks remaining.”
