Promotion for Austrian duo
There was delight for VfL’s Austrian duo Pavao Pervan and Xaver Schlager, who were named in the starting line-up for their country’s final group match. The 1-1 draw with Norway in Vienna clinched Austria’s promotion to Nations League A.
Croatia survive by skin of their teeth
Croatia narrowly avoided relegation from Group A3 despite losing 3-2 to Portugal in their final group game in Split. Marin Pongracic was unavailable after being tested positive for coronavirus, while Josip Brekalo was brought on in the 64th minute.
Switzerland game postponed
Switzerland’s encounter with Ukraine was called off by UEFA after several visiting players tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, neither Renato Steffen nor Admir Mehmedi were in action on Tuesday evening. UEFA are set to decide on how the result will be determined – or whether to play the game at a later date.
