Norway international joins from Paris

Karina Saevik becomes the latest recruit for the She-Wolves.

VfL Wolfsburg Women have further strengthened their squad, with Norwegian international Karina Saevik joining the six-time German champions from Paris Saint-Germain with immediate effect. The 24-year-old attacker, who hails from Haugesund on the south-west coast of the country, has penned a deal with the club through to 30 June 2022 and has been given the number 18 jersey.

Saevik is currently preparing for next Tuesday’s Euro qualifier against Wales alongside fellow Norwegian international and new club team-mate Ingrid Engen. She has 16 caps to her name, having made her way through the various age groups for her country. Her greatest success to date was winning the Algarve Cup in 2019, and that year she also appeared at the Women’s World Cup in France. Prior to joining PSG in 2019, she played for Avaldsnes IL and then spent four years with Kolbotn IL.

“Made a positive impression at the World Cup”

”I’m delighted to be joining one of the greatest clubs in women’s football and to have the opportunity to further my career in such a professional environment,” said Saevik. “I obviously want to play my part in ensuring that VfL continue to play good football and win more titles.”

“With Ewa Pajor likely to be out for a significant period of time, I’m delighted that we have managed to acquire Karina who is an experienced striker on the international stage and who had already made a positive impression on us at the World Cup last year,” added Ralf Kellermann, VfL Women’s sporting director. “I’m sure that she will have an immediate impact on our squad.”
