VfL Wolfsburg Women can already announce a second transfer for the coming summer, with goalkeeper Anneke Borbe set to join last season’s double winners as of 1 July 2023. The 22-year-old goalie is moving on a free transfer from SV Werder Bremen and has signed a contract that will keep her at the club through to 30 June 2025.

Borbe has been playing for Werder since 2015 and made her Bundesliga debut at the age of just 16. Since then, she has gone on to play 60 times in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga while working her way up through the various Germany youth teams at international level.

“Take the next steps“

“VfL Wolfsburg is one of the top clubs in women’s football, both domestically and internationally,” said Borbe. “Having the opportunity to work in such a professional environment like this one does not come around every day. I’m certain that I will be able to take the next steps in my development at VfL, while at the same time contributing to the team’s success.”

“Coming at the right time”

“While she may only be 22 years old, Anneke already has significant experience in the Bundesliga,” said Ralf Kellermann, sporting director for VfL Women. “Not many goalkeepers can say they have 60 appearances at her age. I’m pleased that she will be joining our goalkeeper team next summer and I’m sure that the move is also coming at the right time for Anneke.“
