There was a new face among the VfL staff on Tuesday, with fitness coach Günter Kern joining Bruno Labbadia's team. "He's an expert in the fields of speed and rehabilitation training," said Labbadia. "Given our current personnel situation, we've had to react in order to add more capacity to work with our injured players. With that in mind, I'm very happy that Günter Kern has agreed to support us in this area at such short notice."
Kern, 59, is a familiar face for the Green-Whites. In the 2009/10 season he worked alongside then head coach Armin Veh as a fitness trainer and continued in the role under caretaker coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner after Veh’s departure.
