VfL Wolfsburg have completed their fifth signing for the new season. Left-back Rogerio Oliveira da Silva, known as Rogerio, moves to Wolfsburg from today’s friendly opponents Sassuolo Calcio in Serie A. The 25-year-old Brazilian, who will wear the number 13 shirt, has been given a contract with the Wolves until 30 June 2027.

“Fits our profile perfectly”

“It was well known that we’ve been looking for a left-back in recent weeks,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “We’re all the more pleased that we were able to sign Rogerio, a player who fits our profile perfectly. Rogerio has proven his qualities consistently in Serie A in recent years. He’s technically strong and offers plenty of pace, which will help us on the left wing.”

“An honour to wear VfL colours”

Rogerio commented: “I’m very happy about my move to Wolfsburg. It’s an important step for me and I’m convinced I’ve made the right decision for myself and my career. Proving myself in the Bundesliga is a big challenge and it’s truly an honour for me to be able to wear the VfL colours.”

148 Serie A appearances

The Brazilian becomes VfL’s fifth signing of the current transfer window following Cedric Zesiger, Moritz Jenz , Vaclav Cerny and Tiago Tomas. Rogerio initially joined Sassuolo in 2016 from Brazilian side Sport Club Internacional, but after just a few months moved to Juventus, where he featured for the U19s. After a two-year loan spell with Sassuolo from 2017 to 2019, the club from the Emilia-Romagna region signed the left-back on a permanent deal. In total he made 148 appearances for Sassuolo in Italy’s top flight, recording two goals and seven assists.
