After Felicitas Rauch and Pia-Sophie Wolter both signed contract extensions in the past week, Joelle Wedemeyer has now committed her future to the Green-and-Whites beyond the end of the current season, signing a deal through to 30 June 2021.
The 23-year-old, who joined VfL from MTV Wolfenbüttel in 2011, has been part of the She-Wolves’ first-team squad since 2013. She has made 34 Women’s Bundesliga appearances to date, as well as eight in the DFB Cup and 15 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The defender has lifted ten trophies with VfL and also helped Germany Under-20s win the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2014.
“Established herself as a youth player”
“VfL Wolfsburg are a top club in European women’s football, and as a home-grown player I’m pleased to remain part of the squad for the coming season,” said Wedemeyer. “I’m very happy in Wolfsburg, partly because I have my family and friends here too. However, the main factor in my decision to extend my contract was that I was given a lot of game time in the first half of the season, and that my ambition to develop as a player is matched only by my hunger for more titles.”
