VfL Wolfsburg’s supervisory board is being reorganised, with Sebastian Rudolph (47) moving up to become chairman of the supervisory board committee ahead of the new Bundesliga season. He will be taking over this function on 1 August 2024 from Frank Witter (65), who has been in the role since 2018.
Since 2019, Rudolph has been head of the communications, sustainability and politics department of Porsche AG, and head of global communications for Volkswagen since 2022. He has also been part of the supervisory board committee of VfL Wolfsburg since 2023. VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH is a full subsidiary of Volkswagen AG.
“Experienced communications professional, with close ties to VfL”
“We are restructuring the VfL Wolfsburg supervisory board and making a change at the top to usher in the next generation in sporting terms, while maintaining a sense of continuity and promoting an active manager,” said Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen. “Sebastian Rudolph is a very experienced communications professional who has had close ties with VfL for many years. Within our company, Sebastian has always been able to handle the various footballing matters. On the VfL supervisory board committee, he has already been involved in all of the main decisions. At the same time, we would like to thank Frank Witter for his successful period with the club and wish him all the very best. He will always be a welcome visitor to VfL.”
“Delighted to be taking on additional responsibility”
“I am delighted to be taking on additional responsibility,” said Rudolph. “VfL Wolfsburg is the beating heart of the region, thanks to the sporting achievements of the women’s, men’s and youth teams as well as its social commitments. In sporting terms, we will be looking to secure European football next season, and we will be plotting a suitable path to achieve this with management on and off the pitch. I would like to thank Frank Witter for the mutual trust and professional cooperation that we have enjoyed thus far.”
