New arrival from France

Talented young defender Mathys Angely has joined the Wolves.

VfL Wolfsburg have completed another signing in the shape of 17-year-old defender Mathys Angely, who joins the club from Girondins de Bordeaux. Angely spent the majority of his youth career with local side ESA Brive before moving to Bordeaux in 2022. He made five first-team appearances for the southwest French club in the second tier in 2023/24, and also played for France at the European U17 Championship in Cyprus back in May.

“Pleased to sign Mathys despite strong competition”

VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz: “Mathys is a player who can be used flexibly in defence. He’s comfortable in defensive midfield and in every position across the back. Due to the special circumstances at Bordeaux, an opportunity arose to strike a deal which we didn’t want to miss out on. We’re very pleased we were able to secure the signing of Mathys despite strong competition, and that he can take the next steps in his development at VfL.” Bordeaux were demoted from the French second division to the fourth tier at the beginning of August.
