Just a few weeks ago, she was on the podium at the Olympic Games, having picked up a bronze medal with Germany. Now she is back at VfL and looking forward to the new season with the She-Wolves. Jule Brand spoke to us about the Olympics, her personal goals and the forthcoming Supercup.
Jule, you’ve been back at VfL for a week now. How does it feel?
Jule Brand: “It’s great to be here again and back with the team. I can still feel the effects of having only a short break after the Olympics, but at the same time, it’s great that things are getting back under way.”
Have you had time to digest your Olympic experience?
Jule: “The Olympics came and went really quickly. With a little bit of hindsight, you start to realise what a special experience it was, in particular winning a bronze medal with Germany. It’s my greatest medal and the one that means the most to me.”
What are you aims here in Wolfsburg for the coming season?
Jule: “I want to help the team – on and off the pitch. I want to become more mature and play in a more adult way, and first and foremost not let things get to my head too much. Last season for me had its ups and downs, so I’m looking to bring some more consistency to my performances, so that I can nail down a spot in the starting line-up. I know that I’ve got a decent chance of doing that if I put in good performances.”
How is the mood in the team and among the new signings?
Jule: “The mood’s good, as far as I can tell. We’ve got a good mix of young and experienced players. They’re all really nice and being out on the pitch with them is fun. I think we’ve got ourselves a good team for next season.”
The campaign gets under way on Sunday with the Supercup. How are you feeling about it?
Jule: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a very special competition, and we’re desperate to win the Supercup. It’s the first time that it’s being held in a long, long time and we want to lay down a real marker for the season against Bayern.”
