Meeske takes office

Michael Meeske completes VfL Wolfsburg’s management team.

Michael Meeske officially took up his new position as VfL Wolfsburg managing director today (1 November). The 47-year-old will now oversee the business areas of marketing, sales, internationalisation and digitalisation. “We welcome Michael Meeske into our VfL family and wish him a good start,” commented Frank Witter, chairman of the VfL supervisory board. “With him, Jörg Schmadtke and Dr. Tim Schumacher, we now have a very strong management team which is best equipped in all areas for future challenges.” The current management spokesperson, Wolfgang Hotze, will step down at the end of this month. The 66-year-old deserves big thanks for postponing his planned retirement and agreeing to the appointment of a new managing director.

Going forward, Jörg Schmadtke (54), who joined VfL Wolfsburg on 1 June, will take on additional responsibility for media and communication in his role as managing director for sport. The remit of Dr. Tim Schumacher (44) is also being extended to include the areas of finance, controlling, infrastructure and organisation alongside personnel, purchasing, law and compliance as well as women’s football.

Michael Meeske arrives from 1. FC Nürnberg, where he has worked as a commercial executive for the last three years. “I had a nice and also a successful time in Nuremberg, but it was time for me to take on a new, interesting and demanding challenge,” said Meeske. “I’m very much looking forward to successfully tackling many exciting topics together with my two management colleagues.”
