VfL Wolfsburg have secured the services of Omar Marmoush on a long-term deal by extending the Egyptian striker’s contract for another three years, keeping him at the club until 2023. The 21-year-old joined the Wolves in 2017 from Egyptian top-flight outfit Wadi Degla SC and initially played for the Green-and-Whites’ U23 team in the Regionalliga Nord. In 34 appearances at that level, he has scored 10 goals, with nine of them coming in 2019/20. The forward has also trained regularly with the first-team squad this season, and on 26 May 2020 he made his Bundesliga debut, coming on as a substitute in the 76th minute of the 4-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen. He has since made another three brief appearances for the first team.

“Over the past year, Omar has come on in leaps and bounds with good performances in the U23s, and that has seen him dip his toes into the Bundesliga and with the senior squad,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “Now he needs to gradually get used to playing at Bundesliga level so that he can take it to the next step. We’re delighted that he is going to continue to develop his career with us because it underlines the process that we have put in place to give our young talent the chance to make it into the first team.”
Marmoush himself is very keen to take those next steps, saying: “Making my Bundesliga debut was a dream come true for me. I am delighted and very grateful for the opportunity that I have been given and the trust that VfL are showing in me. I’ll do all I can to justify that faith and to make a lot more Bundesliga appearances here at Wolfsburg, and to help the team along the road to success.“
