Women

Long-term commitment

Ralf Kellermann extends contract with VfL Wolfsburg until 2026.

VfL Wolfsburg and Ralf Kellermann are set to continue down the successful path that they have been mapping out for women’s football in the long term, with the 54-year-old signing a contract extension through to 2026. He will also have a new job title: having been head coach of VfL Women from 2008 to 2017 and then sporting director, he will now be known as director of women’s football.

“The challenges and tasks that women’s football bring with them at VfL Wolfsburg are something I have got to enjoy on a daily basis for some 15 years now,” said Kellermann. “Everyone involved works together with a great deal of respect. We are going to be able to carry on striving towards our ambitious sporting goals together as a team, and moreover continue to optimise the professional conditions to further develop women’s football in Wolfsburg. I’m looking forward to it and would like to thank the club for the trust that they have shown in me.”

“Vying for titles every season”

“The incredible success in terms of women’s football has been an important foundation for VfL Wolfsburg as a club for a number of years now,” said managing director Marcel Schäfer. “The way in which the team has made a name for itself both on the domestic and the European fronts is worthy of respect and is down in no small part to the work of Ralf Kellermann. Our VfL Women are vying for titles every season and I am convinced that the coaching staff under Tommy Stroot, the players themselves and everyone involved with the team will be giving it everything they’ve got to end the current season as successfully as possible.”

FIFA World Coach of the Year 2014

Kellermann was appointed head coach of VfL’s Women’s team in summer 2008. Over the following nine years they won the treble of the Champions League, Women’s Bundesliga and DFB Cup in 2013, with a second UWCL success the following year and a total of five domestic trophies during what was a particular successful period at the helm.

In 2017, the 2014 FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football stepped down as head coach but continued to play a vital role in women’s football at Wolfsburg as sporting director – a position he had occupied in parallel since 2010. During this stint, the She-Wolves won the double four times along with the DFB Cup in 2021.
