The VfL attack is getting a big boost with a new recruit from Italy, with European champion Lineth Beerensteyn set to play for the She-Wolves as of next season. The Netherlands international with 106 caps to her name is joining the Green-and-Whites from Juventus, who finished second in the Italian league last season. The 27-year-old striker has been given a contract which runs until 30 June 2026 and will wear the No. 9 jersey.
Beerensteyn already has a well-stocked trophy cabinet. In 2014, she won the U-19 European Championship, and went on to make her full international debut for Netherlands on 4 June 2016, winning the senior EURO title just a year later. Domestically, she played her youth-team football for ADO Den Haag before joining FC Twente Enschede in summer 2016. Twelve months later, she headed to Germany and made a total of 129 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 24 goals and picking up a Women’s Bundesliga title in 2021. In summer 2022, Beerensteyn moved to Juventus, for whom she played in 64 matches and won the Italian Cup in 2023.
“I can hardly wait”
“I’m delighted to be joining a great club like this one, with such an incredible history and real potential to win trophies,” said Beerensteyn. “I really like the way VfL play and I think that I’ll be able to continue my development here as a player. I hope to be able to fulfil an important role within the team and help us to win more silverware. I can hardly wait to get started on this new journey!”
“Fast, explosive attacker”
“I am incredibly pleased that a forward with international experience like Lineth has chosen to join us,” said Ralf Kellermann, VfL Wolfsburg director of women’s football. “She’s a fast, explosive attacker who can play through the middle or on the wings and always has an eye for goal. In the last two years, Lineth has continued to make progress both at Juventus and for the Netherlands national team, and has developed into a key player. As such, we are delighted that she will be putting these qualities to good use for VfL Wolfsburg in the future.”
