After the 3-0 win over Hoffenheim in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, VfL Women now face one of last year’s promoted teams RB Leipzig in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga on Monday 11 March at 19:30 CET. Coach Tommy Stroot addressed the media before the match and spoke about…
- …squad availability: “Tabea Sellner, Rebecka Blomqvist, Diana Nemeth, Ewa Pajor and Lena Lattwein (all injured) are unavailable. Lena Oberdorf is back in training with us after her stomach issues and we expect her to be in the squad for the match.”
- …their opponents: “When you look at how their squad is made up, Leipzig are not a team that should have to be battling against the drop. In the last few matches, they’ve looked as if they can put any relegation fears behind them and started to make forward progress. That’s why I’ve got a lot of respect for this team – they have quality individuals and shouldn’t be where they are in the table.”
- … Leipzig’s strengths: “They really do have players with individual qualities who always look dangerous. They maintain their structure in possession and have real pace and aggression. Leipzig are also very flexible in the way they play, so we’ll have to maintain 100 per cent concentration levels if we’re going to come away with the three points.”
- …playing on a Monday evening: “I like it when there’s a special reason for it. Quite often, in particular with the late kick-off times that we’ve had recently, it’s becoming an issue with the fans. But once the floodlights go on, it always makes for a special occasion. I like this kick-off time because I like evening matches. We have had a lot of them though in very recent times and for the fans especially, it’s not exactly ideal.”
