After four years at VfL Wolfsburg, Maxence Lacroix has decided to opt for a new challenge and move to English Premier League side Crystal Palace. The 24-year-old centre-back, who was team vice-captain, joined the Wolves in summer 2020 from French second-tier side FC Sochaux-Montbeliard and made 111 Bundesliga outings for the club, as well as a further 19 in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League qualifiers and the DFB Cup, scoring seven times in total. His contract at VfL was due to run until 2025.
“We decided to fulfil Maxence’s wish”
“Given that his contract was due to expire in June next year, the situation wasn’t ideal for us,” said VfL managing director Peter Christiansen. “Crystal Palace made an interesting offer for Maxence Lacroix, which prompted us to enter into negotiations with them. The talks were honest and open, and we’d like to thank everyone involved for that. We received an attractive offer and decided to fulfil Maxence’s wish to move to the Premier League. We would like to thank Maxence and wish him all the best.”
“You have a special place in my heart”
“It was a pleasure to wear the VfL colours,” said Lacroix. “I grew a great deal in Wolfsburg, both as a person and as a footballer, and I will always be grateful for that. An especially big thank you to everyone I worked with every day of the year. You have a special place in my heart. I would also like to thank the fans for the love they have shown me over the past four years. I wish you all nothing but the best.”
