Already one of the longest-serving players in the VfL Wolfsburg squad, Joelle Wedemeyer has reaffirmed her long-term commitment to the She-Wolves after extending her contract – which was due to expire in the summer – until 30 June 2026. The Braunschweig-born 27-year-old joined VfL from MTV Wolfenbüttel in 2011 and initially represented the club at U17 and U20 level. Since her promotion to the first team in 2013/14, the defender has made 105 appearances for the She-Wolves in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, 23 in the DFB Cup and 31 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, racking up 162 outings across all competitions.
“I want to achieve further success”
“I’m very happy to remain a VfL player,” said Wedemeyer. “I’ve continued to improve in a number of areas over the past few months. That improvement has always spurred me on in recent years and played a major role in my decision [to stay at the club]. As part of a strong squad, you always have to fight for your place in the team, and regular game time is one of my main goals. I really appreciate the professional setup at VfL Wolfsburg and want to achieve further success with the team in the coming years, both domestically and in the Champions League.”
