Jakabfi to go into 12th season

Zsanett Jakabfi extends contract with VfL Women by another year.

While VfL Wolfsburg’s women’s team are gearing up for the second half of the season at their training camp in the Algarve, the management at the five-time German champions are pressing ahead with squad planning. Zsanett Jakabfi has become the latest player to commit her future to the Green-and-Whites, extending her contract by another year until 30 June 2021. It means the Hungarian attacker will go into her 12th season with the She-Wolves – only Anna Blässe has been at the club longer having joined two years earlier.

Jakabfi has been involved in all of VfL Women’s honours, and the 29-year-old was also named Hungarian Women’s Footballer of the Year for an eighth time a few weeks ago. She has made 164 appearances for VfL in the Women’s Bundesliga, 25 in the DFB Cup and 40 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

“Important part of our team”

“I’m very happy that my contract has been extended by another year” said Jakabfi. “The fact that I’ll be going into my 12th season in green and white shows how happy I feel at VfL Wolfsburg. I’ve spent over a third of my life at this club, enjoyed lots of successes and been able to meet some great people. I feel great motivation to continue this journey.”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch commented: “Zsanett identifies with VfL Wolfsburg like almost no other player. She has always been committed to our club and to her teammates. As coach, I am very happy that we’ll continue to have a character like her in our ranks.”
