Into the semis with ease

VfL Women beat SC Sand 7-0 in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup.

Lynn Wilms freut sich über das gefallene Tor gegen den FC Sand.

VfL Wolfsburg Women have won the DFB Cup seven years running – and they’re closing in another final appearance after thrashing SC Sand 7-0 in the quarter-finals. Having recently had two FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga matches postponed against the same opponents, the cup holders lived up to their billing as favourites from the outset in their first home cup tie of the season.

Joelle Smits and Rebecka Blomqvist both netted braces at the AOK Stadion, with Dominique Janssen, Felicitas Rauch and Joelle Wedemeyer providing the other goals. The semi-final draw takes place this Sunday, 6 March, from 19:35 CET.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: “I’m very happy about the result and how the game went. A 7-0 win, convincingly into the next round – that tells you enough about the game. In the first half, aside from the goals that came from set pieces, we didn’t create much in open play. We need to force that more, which we managed to do later. The fact that Sand came out a bit stronger at the start of the second half was not least down to our two changes, but we’d factored that in. After that we had a lot of good chances, which is understandable because we had a lot of control to begin with and the opponents had to put a lot of effort in. And that’s why Sand then ran out of energy.”
